Houston: Day Four

Another big day at camp.

Movies (Toy Story), a travel box (more decoupage, like her library box), more rainbow drawings, etc. She also went to 'music camp' which she really liked.

Oh, and woodworking.

Can't forget woodworking.

Meanwhile, Jenna went with us to breakfast at Buffalo Grille where we met Grandma Alicia, Grandpa Stephen, Donna and Arthur.

Then it was off to the Houston Museum of Natural Science's Butterfly Center. Just like Fancy Nancy.

Finally, to cap off a big day we met Santiago and Tiffani Chuck, seen here in their best redneck vehicle (no doubt borrowed from the Chuck ranch).

We went to Becks Prime for really good burgers, fries, and of course, a chocolate shake.

Houston: Day Three

Melanie headed back to camp today. We'll have to report in on that later. But Jenna went with us to get our eyes checked. Earlier in the morning she was 'checking' my glasses and asked her if she was a doctor like her grandpa. "No, he's an eye doctor. I'm a glasses doctor."

And here he is, checking the eyes... of Jenna's pony.

And here's Jenna in 'glasses doctor' mode:

and with Paula.

UPDATE - Here she is trying on frames again. This time with Sandy.

And of course, you don't go anywhere in Houston with a meal being involved. Today's lunch was at Sandy's Market, "a progressive, community-based market where people learn to love living healthily". And one with a kick-@$$ salad bar/buffet.

Tonight is dinner at Chez Miller, back on Jackwood St where it all began. Can't wait.

First day of Enchanted Summer Camp

A full report to come later.

Update:

That's Sana in the photo. At camp today, Melanie
  • made butterfly wings
  • found objects hidden in a picture
  • colored a bag
  • drew and painted a rainbow
  • ate lunch, a lolipop and two snow cones!
  • made a bracelet
  • sewed a puppet
  • learned rhyming words
  • told a joke
  • and much, much more!
She did cry at the the beginning of the day, but that was when the other kids hadn't shown up yet and likely she was a bit alone and overwhelmed. She had an amazing day and isn't ready to quit. Right now she's in the other room and Susan is helping her learn to read!

Meanwhile, Jenna went to the Children's Museum of Houston (three cheers for reciprocal memberships!). She did some shopping...

... and got behind the wheel of some American muscle.

Chollas Lake. Free use of fishing gear (bamboo poles for the youngest, small rod and reel for bigger kids) on Sundays from 10am to 2pm. The people around us who were really trying were bringing in, and I'm guessing here, 5-8 pound catfish. We each caught - well, MLS and JES did have some help - a 4-inch bluegill.  I was trying to explain to the girls that fishing was all about quiet and patience.  But I kept thinking... fishing is all about drinking!  When can we teach them that lesson?

Customer Service

I "bought" this English muffin at least six times. Each time it cost something different, and at no time did the shopkeepers have change.

Monsters

No, I'm not describing the girls' attitudes this week -- though it would be apt.  Rather here is a photo of them with Zoe, from Sesame Street, at Sea World.

For whatever reason, Jenna didn't stop to say 'hi' to Elmo. But for once, Melanie got over her shyness.
